Bitter Young Ladies

Charlie Kirk is a 30 year old outspoken conservative who founded Turning Point USA at the tender age of 18. Armed with a megaphone and a penchant for controversial one-liners, he’s become the poster boy for Gen Z right-wing politics. Whether he’s triggering liberals on college campuses or delivering fiery monologues on social media, Kirk is never short on opinions. With a baby-faced charm and the energy of a caffeine-fueled debate team captain, he’s on a mission to make conservatism cool again, one tweet at a time. His latest claim? That birth control “really screws up female brains,” turning women into “very angry bitter young ladies.” And if you care about the women in your life you will encourage them to stop taking birth control.

It’s no coincidence that several politicians are suddenly flirting with taking away people’s access to birth control, under the guise that is bad for you, and it’s “to protect your health.” States have already started to make possession of other reproductive health medications like mifepristone and misoprostol illegal and classified them as dangerous narcotics, as the Supreme Court determines weather or not to take abortion pills off the market on a federal level.

Let’s be real. It’s not birth control making women upset. There are way bigger fish to fry when it comes to women’s mental health and well-being.

Do you know what *does* screw up *women’s* brains?

Phsyical assault, sexual assault, abuse, domestic violence, being stalked, sexual harassment, not being believed when you are assaulted, being asked what you were wearing when you were assaulted, being talked out of reporting being assaulted, being asked why you waited to report being assaulted, being asked why you weren’t emotional enough when reporting being assaulted, and the PTSD as a result. Living in a state that has overturned no-fault divorces, or not allowing divorce during pregnancy, forcing women to stay in abusive relationships. Asking what she did to make her abuser angry.

I don’t expect Charlie to care too much about this, considering he dontaed $50,000 to a group that is opposing sexual abuse reforms in the Southern Baptist Convention. Kirk’s second-annual Pastors Summit in Nashville, Tennessee, and one of their corporate sponsors is a Christian fashion company that is led by a registered sex offender, Shawn Bergstrand, who served time in federal prison for attempted “coercion and enticement” after trying to persuade “a minor female” to “engage in sexual activity.”

Constantly doubting your reality because someone is gaslighting you and manipulating your perception, distorts facts, denies events, or even telling outright lies to make you doubt your own memory, perception, or sanity.

Someone Dismissing your feelings as irrational or overreacting, leading to a profound erosion of self-confidence and a heightened reliance on the gaslighter for validation and approval. “That’s not what really happened” or “You’re just imagining things,” “why are you getting so angry?”, “You need to calm down.”

Societal pressure to have kids, leading to stress and anxiety when life choices don’t fit the traditional mold. Charlie Kirk would know a little something about that. In another video, Kirk stated, “The biggest thing is this: more younger women need to get married at a younger age and start having kids. The single woman issue is one of the biggest issues facing a civilization. We have more single women in their early 30s that are the most depressed, suicidal, anxious, and lonely in America’s history because there’s a biological clock that’s going off and they realize that they’re not going to be able to have kids, that they’re not as desirable in the dating market or in the dating pool and so they start to lash out on the rest of society.” So is it the birth control or the not having kids? I am confused. But his camp only wants some women to have kids…. as a major talking point at an annual summit was how black women need to stop having kids out of wedlock.

What’s Really Making Women Angry and Bitter?

Post partem depression. Restrictive reproductive health policies limiting access to abortion and other reproductive health services, forcing women into tough situations. OBGYNs leaving states with strict abortion bans, requiring women to travel longer distances for basic prenatal care and putting pregnancies at risk. Having to ask multiple doctors before or needing spousal consent to get a hysterectomy. Being denied procedures you need or having procedures done on you that you did not consent to. A 2023 study by health scientist Marit van der Pijl and gynecologist Martine Hollander found that over 40% of women who receive an episiotomy during childbirth do not give explicit consent for the procedure. Husband Stitches. Having health concerns dismissed or misdiagnosed by doctors, with symptoms attributed to anxiety rather than taken seriously.

Being paid less to do the same job. Being told to hide or lie about pregnancies during job interviews or while working, fearing they won’t get hired or might lose their job. Not having maternity leave, having to choose between their job and their baby, adding to their stress. Constantly having to prove themselves in the workplace, with their contributions undervalued and their competence questioned. But then again, Charlie does not think women should be working at all. “Being a partner at a local law firm actually isn’t that big of a deal. Having three kids is a really big deal and will make you happier and it’s okay to be a stay at home mom. In fact, we need a lot of stay at home moms and a lot of women want to be stay at home moms and we have miserable women because we’ve been shuffling them into a corporate wasteland. When in reality, a lot of them don’t find a lot of passion or fulfillment in that line of work. ” But unfortunately, he also doesn’t support wage increases that would allow a woman to stay at home if she wanted to.

Being told to smile.

The Bottom Line: It’s not birth control turning women into “angry, bitter young ladies.” It’s the real, systemic issues that society is ignoring and making worse by listening to a man who is not a doctor, but a glorified talk show host who knows nothing about our bodies, our brains, or what it’s like to be us.
